Can Children Benefit From CBT? October 5, 2015

CBT is an action-oriented therapy targeted towards treating specific problems. Since the primary emphasis is rational thought, it may be effective for adolescents/teenagers, but it seems an unlikely option for children under the age of 7. However, there are modified CB therapies that can be implemented with active participation from parents.

The hurdle in treating children is that very few disorders, especially anxiety, OCD, depression are hard to diagnose in pre-schoolers and kindergartners. However, if a child has been diagnosed with any such condition a CBT therapist (paediatric) can, along with the parents, devise a CB therapy that can effectively treat the problem.
